Revised Content:
The Level Sense LS2600 Surface Liquid Sensor is designed to connect to a control device that accepts an analog or digital input. With its compact dimensions of L64 x W15.6 x H12.7mm, the sensor housing is made of white ABS material. It operates on a working voltage of 5Vdc-12Vdc and has a maximum voltage of 24Vdc, with a maximum working current of 0.5A. The sensor can function within a temperature range of 14°F to 150°F (-10°C to 65°C).
The sensor comes with a 6-foot cable, where the red wire connects to the positive terminal, and the white wire connects to the negative (ground) terminal. This sensor is well-suited for use in Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and home electronics projects.
When using the LS2600 in home electronics projects, it's important to note that the device does not provide a "contact closure." Instead, it generates a trickle current between the two contacts when water with some ionic content is present. The sensor behaves as an open circuit when no water is detected and as a (roughly) 1.4MΩ resistor when water is present. The resistance can vary depending on the water's composition.
To confirm the device's functionality, users can place the ohmmeter probes directly into water, approximately 1.5 inches apart, and take a reading. Then, they can place the sensor in water and connect the ohmmeter to the red and white wires. The two readings should be similar.
For the best circuit design, users should place the sensor feet in water and measure the resistance with an ohmmeter. This resistance value should be used in the circuit design. In the unlikely event of "non-conductive" water, adding a small amount of salt around the sensor location can easily rectify the issue by ionizing the water and allowing it to conduct.
When using the LS2600 as an input to an Arduino or Raspberry Pi, it is recommended to use either an analog input or a "PULL UP" input, where the sensor is connected to ground.
The provided circuit diagrams demonstrate various ways the LS2600 Floor Leak Sensor can be deployed in DIY home projects, such as integrating it with alarm systems or using it for water heater/utility room leak detection.
